At a young age Moorel saw writing as her ticket out of the ghetto. At thirteen she completed her first novel, The Aliens Beneath the Tub.  When she couldn’t immediately get it published she became disillusioned.  She abandoned her fantasies of becoming an author.

In college she studied psychology and criminal justice. Upon graduation she went to work in the field of social work. Having been through the social services system herself as a foster child she felt that it was her duty to give back. However, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she had made a wrong turn in her career. A year later she left the field.

As she sat around indulging in her favorite past times (movies and writing) an idea so absurd, yet so exciting and so insistent, forced its way into her consciousness. She obediently did what her intuition told her to do. She sat down at her keyboard and started writing a movie with the intent of selling it to Hollywood. Three feverish months and three scripts later she completed Escaping the Past, an autobiographical screenplay. That script won her a Disney Screenwriting Fellowship and finally a ticket out of the ghetto. She packed her bags and moved across the country from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.

Moorel spent an exciting year in the fellowship being mentored by Disney and ABC executives.

Today Moorel is looking for other writing opportunities while working on spec scripts and seeking representation. It is her goal to win an Academy Award for best original screenplay. She has already written her acceptance speech.
