BIO
Michael Lent's most recent book is “Christmas Letters from Hell” published by Simon & Schuster.
He got his start at MTV where he was once ran for his life while dressed as a giant day-glo “M” made out of Styrofoam. After that fiery birth, he went to Hollywood where he was a producer on the movies WITCHES’ NIGHT, NAKED IN AMERICA and the award winning HARD SCRAMBLED. He also wrote, directed and produced the animated short SANTA & SATAN: TAXI CAB CONFESSIONS (WITH A GUEST APPEARANCE BY ELVIS).
As a screenwriter, he has sold, optioned or been assigned to 11 feature film projects including THE HELLSEEKER for Miramax Studios. In 2005, Lent received the Gold Remi award for screenwriting at the Houston Worldfest.
Besides “Christmas Letters from Hell“ and its precursor “Christmas in Hell,” his books include the graphic novel "Prey: Origin of the Species” published by Marvel Comics and “Breakfast with Sharks” published by Random House, a film industry best-seller for 2004. He was also a writer on the upcoming XBox 360 sequel game to Vigilante 8.
Lent’s next project is a collaboration with fellow AWG member Brian McCarthy on “Blackwater,” a horror western that is both a graphic novel and feature film project.
Since 1997, he has been a featured columnist and contributing editor for Creative Screenwriting Magazine.
What Lent lacks in street smarts he makes up for with an overpriced education. He holds an M.F.A. from the University of Miami and has taught screenwriting in the UCLA Extension/Artsreach Program and at Santa Barbara City College. Michael even once taught screenwriting to convicted felons at the Chino Men’s Prison. He has the home-made prison tats to prove it.
Michael lives in Glendale, California with his wife Sonia and their son, Willem and daughter, Sophia Skye. Both children proclaim their Dad to be very “silly-willy-billy.” The family has two dogs, Pooka and Kiwi. Both are rescues from the Humane Society.
